The great depression of the 1930’s was a crucial period in world’s history. Just before the Second World War, the world experienced one of the worst and most horrible declination of the world’s economy. It’s still considered to be the darkest moment of the 20th and 21st century. We should note that though the origins of the depression was due to the totally stock failure of the U.S, it rapidly spread in the world as a vicious circle, crossing the borders, affecting nearly all the countries of the world. The immediate effects of the depression were drastic falls in all profits, taxes triggering towards record highs, prices plummeting and astonishingly, worldwide trade halved. Major developments in countries affected by the depression were halted for instance construction works put to a stop, farming was severely hit as prices were at a record low and availability of jobs was very scarce. One should ask us how people tended to survive the great depression.
To give answers to the question what people did to survive the great depression? I should like to point out that while the general reference to the great depression is made regarding the one which happened in the 1920’s, we shouldn’t discard the one that we are facing nowadays. We should closely examine human strength and capacity to make the most of everything at our disposal. Studies shows that families should come together and make plans about what can be done to counteract the effects of the depression. And this shouldn’t be related to only one family, but the union of a community of families. We should note that if you can no longer afford your house, then to counteract the depression, you should leave it and find another house when the rent would fit properly in your crisis budget.
Furthermore, it is often said that the best way to do something is to follow the simple traditional ways. To survive the great depression, one should plant our own garden. It will make us self-sufficient in vegetables and fruits and won’t allow us to be totally dependent on the market. This will in a sense reduce our expenses and cut by nearly half our budget. IT should be noted that this was heavily practiced in the 1920’s during the great depression, when people were living on only a few home-made vegetables. Why not apply this nowadays when the prices of vegetables are going sky-high and sometimes unaffordable to many people?
Moreover, cooking one’s own meal isn’t a bad idea. To survive the great depression sacrifices are needed and making a stock of many non perishable goods is a good way of being self-dependant. Also, we should also grasp the notion that losing our jobs in this bad situation will only make things worse. We should try our best to preserve our jobs which is our lone source of secure income. Also, if you feel that you might lose our job, and then start looking for another one. We should be ahead of people, then only, we would fight to survive the great depression and God-willing end it.
