The horoscope dates of an astrological year are generally counted through various methodologies. The most popular two types of methods are –
- The tropical method
- The sidereal method
Following these two methods there are different types of date calculation based on distinct astrological norms. There are twelve zodiac signs in astrology; each covers a particular time of the year. Those people, who are born in that particular time, are considered to belong to that particular zodiac region. Thus the person is known to have that particular zodiac sign, which summarizes the condition of the planets, as well as the sun, moon and other elements at the time of his or her birth.
Those persons who belong to a same group of zodiac sign share some fundamental characteristics and mental setup which later on influence them to take decisions and act accordingly. Thus in other words these zodiac signs actually determine the future and the personal traits of that person. So the horoscope dates naturally play a highly important part in determining the future and personality of an individual.
Following the tropical horoscope dates here is the date division of twelve signs –
- March 21 to April 20: Aries
- April 21 to May 22: Taurus

- June 23 to July 23: Cancer
- July 23 to August 23: Leo
- August 23 to September 23: Virgo

- November 23 to December 21: Sagittarius
- December 22 to January 20: Capricorn
- January 21 to February 19: Aquarius

According to the sidereal horoscope dates here is the date division of the thirteen signs –

With a glance, it can be seen that sidereal or Jyotish method has one more zodiac sign than the tropical system. The sidereal system follows the constellation of stars and determines the horoscope dates according to the dominating constellation of the stars on that particular date. On the other hand the tropical system follows the position of the sun on a particular zodiac region to determine the dates for the horoscope.
The tropical version is widely used by western astrologers. However before the procession of equinoxes, the west also used to apply the sidereal version. But now the sidereal version has taken few western and mainly an eastern practice zone. Thus the horoscope dates determine in a long run how a person will be by classifying him or her into a particular zodiac sign.
